I will have to agree with you here DFreeman. Troy Sabot was a force on the mat.

What do you guys think about HWT Josh Epperly? His Jr. and Sr. Year he didn't lose to anyone from ND. His Jr. Year he was undefeated and his Sr. year the only loses he had was from Harding County SD, HWT Lucas Teigen which now wrestles for SDSU. Some others are maybe Brian Biel from Beulah, Kayle Dangerud from Hettinger, Reese Boehm from New Salem. Beau and Levi Wisness from Watford City. I don't know, what do you guys think?

Comparing wrestlers in a state is an impossible thing to do. Some wrestlers reach their peak at a young age, have incredible high school careers, but get squished when they get to the college ranks. It's hard to compare a heavier wrestler with a light weight wrestler. Numerous wrestlers come to mind when you talk about greats. One thing I believe is that it's alot easier to win a lower weight class as a freshman than it is to win a heavier weight at that age. So my picks are Scott Kelly-Velva 4x state champ at 185# and Clint Schmidt-West Fargo, I believe a 4x state champ at Hwt. I'd even throw Gary Hoffman in there, he went down and won the Bison open his senior year.

clint schmidt was only a 2xchamp. he lost in the finals to a bismarck hwt when he was a soph. Probably would have lost to Decoteau from belcourt too hadn't he got upset in the quarters by some no name from Minot Ryan.

Hey guys what you have in this board topic is who they know right now. You have to remember that some of the posters are (kids that are still in high school) and could not and could never had the opportunity to watch the wrestlers alot of you are mentioning here. It is a shame not to have watched the Steiners to name 1. I personally for one, never went to wrestling matches or a tournament until my son started to take this sport seriously about 11 years ago. Now we travel half way across the country to wrestle and get a glimpse of Rulan Gardner or Cael Sanderson lace em up and compete. I don't think we should take away anyone's heroes. Whether those heroes are my kid or yours, it doesn't matter. Think of all the crap going on in the world today!! Look at who some of the kids look up to nowdays; Kidrock, MM, Tupac, Marlynn Manson ect, If you get my point here, let our kids be the roll models to the younger kids or adults and fans. I showed Travis an email last night that a boy sent me on Wednesday. It was a kid that was on a ND wrestling team who looked up to my son and wanted to know what Travis did to get to the point he is today. If an email like that does not give you a warm feeling inside, nothing will. These are the moments that push my son to train as hard as he does. Whether what we say back to that young boy helps or not, I know that boy helped push my son to another level..... Keith Lang

i think travis lang was by far and away the most dominating wrestler in the state this year, i'm a class b wrestler so i dont know too much about the class a guys that aren't totally studs, but he made the second seed jay halverson look like a joke in the finals match totally dominating him the way he did, but i think he shoulda tried to pin him or something though, i mean there's no need to just go out and embarrass someone like that. but travis lang is awesome.

I am very sorry to hear about Chris Borah's situation and I hope to see him back next year. However, if you think Marc Mellmer had to do something like that to beat Chris Borah, I don't think you were paying much attention to their match before the injury. Marc was dominating.
Something like this can happen in a wrestling match by accident. Why does everyone assume that Marc did this on purpose? Give the kid some credit...he went out and avenged his two losses from this year and beat Stockert for the state title.

Dusty Swanson was soooo tough in high school. He placed in 9th grade at 160,won 3 state titles, Mr. Wrestler in 1998, quickest pin in 171, pin records, win records, I still wrestle with him, he NEVER gets out of position and is unbelievably tough. And HE HAS A LITTLE LEG!!!
