In the dual results it says that"Travis ran out on the mat and yelled something out" then it said that "Michealson seemed offended" Does anyone know what he said?

My son has done the "Brands" stomp for the past 2 years. Coach Schumacher taught my son this 2 years ago. The Brands brother's did this for ever, before their matches. It is a psychological thing that gets him ready for his next match. I believe that everyone in the state that has seen Travis wrestle before, has seen him do it. "Why Mr. Michaelson decided right before the match he did not like it, you will have to ask him." Travis does not taunt or take crap to anyone. His wrestling does the talking. I normally do not try to defend my sons actions!! I guess I am sick and tired of people trying to paint a picture that is not there. I believe everyone just got caught up in the moment.

He really doesn't yell anything out... He just tells himself as he stomps on to the mat that basically, "This is my Mat" and that he is ready to take it or defend it. I see it as a way to pump ones self up and only himself. I read once that Tom Brands used to say alot of crazy things off the mat but he always was quiet on the mat except for the "stomp" which now I think I understand.

Mr. Lang,
After reading the post-match article by Jon Gums, I was not not going to make this a public issue on Dakota Grappler, but since you have brought it to this level, here goes.
First off, I am not trying to "paint a picture" of any kind about Travis Lang. That's not my thing. I was simply pointing out that this was behavior, IN MY OPINION, that falls under the definition of taunting. The NFHS rule book states that it "disapproves of any form of taunting which is intended or designed to embarass, ridicule, or demean others." I felt this was happening. Taunting was a point of emphasis at the fall rules clinic and is a point of emphasis on page 2, iten 3 of the NFHS rule book. If it had been someone other than our JV 125 pounder walking onto the mat to wrestle Travis, maybe I would have felt differently. I asked him later and he said he did feel very "ridiculed and demeaned" at the time.
The "Brands Stomp" was never a 15-20 second parade around the mat proclaiming "this is my mat, this is my mat, this is my mat......." when performed by the Brands.
As to why I waited until right before the match to decide I didn't like it, as you questioned in your post, THAT IS WHEN IT HAPPENED!
I talked to Travis immediately after the match and explained to him he is too good of a wrestler to do that and it was uncalled for in my opinion. I have always respected his abilities as a wrestler and admire his work toward becoming a champion.
Our wrestlers are not perfect by any means. Nor am I trying to impose what we teach onto anyone. I felt it was taunting at the time. Still do.

This is not taunting! Its funny that I watched the Dickinson kid who was so "ridiculed and demeaned" walk out on the same wrestling mat and do the same "Stomp". Get over it people its not taunting!

I have seen Travis wrestle a few times this season and have seen the "Brands Stomp." To me this is on different than someone running up to the lines or doing a hot lap around the mat before he wrestles. if anyone is going to make a fuss about Travis doing this stomp maybe somebody should make a fuss about Dan Nichalson slapping himself silly before every match... what's the difference, its a way somebody mentally focusses themself and i do not see it as a Taunt in any way whatsoever!

Coach Mike, Travis has been doing the Brands Stomp for quite awhile.. Two years I think, and its never been an issue until now! Now why is that Coach? Is there something wrong with it? NO THERE ISNT! ITS NOT TAUNTING! and you said its a 15-20 second parade around the mat, and thats not true. He stomps then he gets his leg band puts it on the comes to the middle. It doesnt matter if its the state finals of any easy win hes probobly going to do the stomp. Hes probobly not going to stop doing it. BUT WHY SHOULD HE STOP?

It was different that night. It was longer and more of a show. Why can't more guys act like Math Bitz? Go out, wrestle, win, and walk off like the champion he was.

Math was/is a class act and a nice human being. Its too bad more young wrestlers cant take after and act like him. How is he doing for NDSU??

I personally feel that wrestling is the most emotional of any sport that you may ever find. These guys need to feed off that emotion and sometimes let go. I think that if the sport of wrestling was to perhaps be more fiery and lively, it would garner more interest, and possibly a greater audience. Lets face it, right now there are not nearly as many teams as there have been in the past. this is true at both the high school and college level. this sport and it's athletes need to find as many ways as possible to make the sport more exciting and popular. Just look at the ideas that j robinson has over at the U. He has been building as great a following as possible and even adding a little of that forbidden word "hype" Now, this dual between Dickinson and Bismarck could not have possibly been hyped any more, especially on this web site. That is just awesome. It sounds like it worked and turned out to be a great night of wrestling. Let Lang allow his emotions to fly, any time you can back it up, I say that it's alright.

Why doesn't somebody just beat the kid... maybe that will get him to stop doing his "TAUNT" until then the only "dumbasses" are the people who don't realize that this kid works his butt off to be the best and if he wants to express himself he has every right to.

Doesnt it say in the NFHS rule book that taunting is flagrant misconduct.

Get over it! Your team lost a close dual, all teams do. Dont blame it on the "Stomp". Your team got beat now get ready to compete at State.

Mr. Stockert,
Thank you for the nice words.
I never indicated that anything Travis did cost us the dual. The match was won by Bismarck...end of story. They are a very good team, well coached, and have great fan support. I look forward to seeing that same support out here this weekend in Dickinson at the West Region.
As for Marc, he has not committed to any school yet. Nebraska is one of many who are interested.
