One coach from years ago was James utter, who coached a small school called Dakota, he was class B coach of year in 1980, also AAA coach of year in Minnesota while at Blaine high school and A-4 coach of year in Idaho(state champions also) in 1999. How many coaches do you know win this honor in three different states. He was also responsible for west german freestlyle/greco meet in 1978 in North dakota, Hunter was the smallest town to host full international meet in USA, still in record books. Other great coaches where Bert Gums,Nick Storghuag, and Frank Fish, and Mike Norglund. these teams really battled for titles in those days.

I just want to know how you can say one coach is better than another one because you have to see what kind of cards a coach is dealt. For example Bismarck has been dealt the cream of the crop for many years and their coaches have turned their wrestlers from good or great to superstars. But some coaches dont have that luxery ... so I would have to say any coach who turns a bad wrestler into a successful one is a good coach. I mean its not all about how successful a wrestler is but what he gets out of wrestling and in life because of what that coach has taught him. I dont expect many people to agree with me but thats not the point ... the point is that you dont have to win a team championship to be a good coach!

SPM7,
Your correct in thinking that if any coach improves a bad wrestler into a sucessfull one he has acccomplished alot. The thing about Bismarck High coaches is they stay up all night drinking beer dreaming of ways to beat you. We'll maybe not drinking beer, but I have been associated with both of coaches from BHS for many years and I can tell you they will find a way to win if they can. Sometimes they can't. It hasn't happened often but it has happened.
Bismarck High has a great coaching staff.
