Nate Hansen has to be my pick right now as the best wrestler in SD (Class B) in fact Gregory has my top twoHe beat two great wrestlers this week Pirner in OT 5-3 and Ryan Orel Winner 11-9 in OT
Then comes Michael Veskerna he just dominates and he is just a junior.
3rd Shane Sutera
In the Class A's Tucker Michels Stevens I will get in to this more later..
I would like to hear more comments on who is looking good in SD.

I have to disagree with you on this one. Derek Pirner is the best wrestler in the state right now. If you were at the Gregory Tournament you would understand the reasoning. Derek has proven himself in national tournaments and with is recent signing to the University of Nebraska. Second best i would have to say is Nate Hansen. Both wrestlers have over 200 career wins.

Also dont forget Brookings Zach Johnson..he also has proven himself out of state and just beat Kotzea from Aberdeen (returing chamo who had a good junior nationals run) 5-0 and then Kotzea defaulted when he was going over again. Zach is tough and has beat the #1 guy in MN (who also beat the #1 guy from West Fargo)
Tucker Michals, Nate Hanson, Pirner, Nick Smith all are very tough

I agree Hanson is awesome. A great match right now would be Hanson verses Inhofer (sturgis), both are at 135. I heard inhofer beat both the ND and WY state champs quite handily.

My top 5 would be Derek Pirner (I know he lost to Hansen), Nick Smith, Nate Hansen, James Lemke, and Andrew Sinclair. It would be great to see a rematch between Pirner and Hansen as the first match was a real treat.

Well in my own personal opinion, if Bon Homme made a good coaching decision they'd have a state title in their hands come late February..By putting Max Grandi in the lineup at 103, he has a shot at making the big dance, and pullin a couple upsets there as well.
PS Vavruska in, Hovorka OUT

I really do not know the jist of what you guys think of Max Grandi. I think he is a good wrestler for the future but does not make the lineup because he must get beat by the 3pounder there. You may have a point with the spot at 130. I heard that Ryan Kocer form Wagner is going down to 103 and if he is watch out Marx and Benson.

My top 5 are Hansen, Pirner, Johnson, Michaels, and Sutera. 125 is loaded now that Pirner dropped 3 former state champs in one class. Should make for a great tourney. Hopefully Pirner and Sutera are on opposite sides. Other great finals could be Veskrna and Padden, and Jones and Long. Anybody have predictions on these classes?

Michels beat Dretch from Frazee, MN in the finals of Bismarck rotary ND tourney after being controlled basically the entire 5 1/2 minutes of the match. Dretch was up 2-0 with 40 seconds remaining and riding. Michels reversed him to his back for a 2 near fall and won. Exciting match. 2 quality wrestlers...Michels was lucky to get out of North Dakota without another loss (he lost before Christmas at the Mandan Lions tourney when he was at 171 to ND state chamion Michelson from Dickinson, 4-3.) Michels looks much better at 160 than at 171. However, the team would appear to be better off with Moran at 60, and Michels at 71. Michaelson (Dickinson, ND) easily handled Moran in the finals at 71. I do have to say Rapid City Stevens has very strong team and are fun to watch. Good wrestlers, good coaching. As a fan I noticed their coach hardly ever had a word to the ref's, he simply did his job and the quality of his work shows up on the scoreboard. He coaches, not ref's, and obviously very effectively.

Wishard IS a good coach, there is no doubt about that. In my opinion, he has blown new life into that program that almost was out of it at one time a few years ago.
Michels is tough, but, as we all know, is beatable. I think he probably is almost unstoppable at 160, and as for Moran, he may have gotten beat, but is there anyone in SD at 171 that can beat him?

I think they are several "b" wrestlers that can take moran, as far as "a" wrestlers I look to Novotny from winner.

This weekend at Mitchell will be a good one for 171 and a lot of other weight classes. NO ONE is going to want to miss this one!! (Sat. 1/18/03) Not sure what the start time is.
RC Stevens, Sturgis, Mitchell, Winner, Pierre
Bon Homme, Howard, Miller, Wagner, Parkston
Talk about a BRAWL!!!

Who will win the mitchell inv? My bet either RC Stevens or Winner. Philip inv. is another good one this weekend.
