Well, it is an interesting topic, I feel NDSU could do it at least in Wrestling. The only fall back is all the penalties the sport would take for the next 4-5 years. With Bucky hanging up his shoes soon, the job would be difficult at the least. ?Maybe One or both of the Steiners would take over?

I'm not sure when Bucky will retire? Do you know anything ? I would feel sorry for the wrestlers already signed like Math Bitz or Adam Dahlstrom. Would Bucky let them out of the contract? 5-6 years would kill the program we all luv to watch.

Well, Bucky told me he is ready to retire, this year or next. The freshmen and sophomores will suffer the most. I think the program would suffer alot unless they got Div I quality Coaching.. I am keeping an Eye on this one... I will be putting a big article in the State Tournament Issue of Dakota Grappler. I will also update this often.. Thanks

hey grappler Have you heard who may in the running for the job if Bucky retires? How about the U of Mary position? who may take over? Also now that Gabriel has put in his resignation? who would take over as head coach?

I would love to help out Century, but I would need to get a teaching job in Bismarck, Mandan this next school year..
I will put my apps. in and see what happens.
Century's Assistant's are also very capable of becoming the next head coach. You now who I am talking about?

I don't think this is a very good idea. You know how many schools go D1 with the idea of making it big. The school I'm sure is thinking this would be a lucrative, but the fact is most of the smaller schools that go D1 you don't hear anything about. Have you seen the duels when NDSU wrestles Univ of Minn or Iowa??? As an elite wrestler in the country with offers from Iowa, Minnesota, or NDSU where do you think there first choice would lie?? It's an interesting idea, but I think it would inevitably end up as a long long period of mediocrity for the Bison. Who would settle for that?

HEY GRAPPLER: YOU WOULD BE A NICE ADDITION TO THE CENTURY WRESTLING TEAM. I HOPE YOU GET A SHOT AT IT. YOU ARE QUALIFIED. ANY IDEAS WHO ELSE MAY LOOK AT THE JOB?
I HEARD GABRIEL MAY BE LOOKING AT U OF MARY JOB FOR NEXT YEAR. I FEEL SORRY WHOEVER GETS THE POSITION, THEY ARE WAITING TOO LONG TO INTERVIEW, THEY WILL MISS THE RECRUITING PERIOD. IF GABRIEL WAS TO GET IT MAYBE HE WOULD TAKE THE SABOT'S AND NEIGUM WITH HIM? JUST A THOUGHT, ANY IDEAS?

Honestly, Gabriel doesn't work the students hard enough at times at Century, he's to soft (too nice) it works to mold some younger kids but when it comes to college it becomes all business and that is not Gabes style. Gabe certainly has all the talent and ability the rest is to see.
I also talked to U-Mary's AD and he said they are waiting to see if a teaching position opens up.... He said probably Chemistry... so that they can pays them somewhat respectfully. I really think Milo was probably under paid... I also wonder how many real wrestling coaches have a Doctorate in Chemistry?? Or even a Masters... Will a Full time teacher have the time to devote to a NAIA traditional Powerhouse... Milo has done a great job but he devotes more time then most coaches..
I will have to think somemore on this one..

It is incredible to my thinking that there should be any question as to who should be the next Head Coach at Century High School. Clearly that person is Randy Hilzendeger. I have known Randy for a number of years and I know what kind of man he is and what kind of a coach he is and I can tell you that there is no one more qualified to take over the Century program. And lest we forget, Randy is Co-Head Coach already. Does that mean anything? It darn well better. From where I sat, and I sat where I could see, Hilzy's presence made an impact that could be readily seen. He deserves the job because he is qualified and has put in his time as an assistant at BHS and CHS.

Hey Grappler,
You need to get your application into Mandan High and do it quickly.

NDSU moving up to D1 is a mistake. Not only for wrestling but for all of their sports. As it stands right now, if a kid wanted to wrestle in a D1 program and have any chance to be on a National Championship team he only has about 10 realistic choices and some would argue fewer than that. The great thing about SU is that they are one of the bad boys in D2 in every sport. What happens in Fargo, the media capital of the midwest (yeah right) when the Bison Football team goes .500 or less? What happens when Bison Ladies BB is just over .500? Some Teamakers, fans and other Bison alums aren't all that happy w/ Bob Babich now and all he does is win ballgames but not enough at the right time of the year. The Fargo/Moorhead area is not going to support a D1 program unless it plans to compete with Michigan, Ohio State, Duke, Kansas, Old Dominion and LA Tech. Do you really think thats going to happen with the recruiting base in this part of the country? I think they should stay right where they are and enjoy being one of the classiest and best D2 programs in the country.

I don't think they are ready to make the transition in football just yet, but wrestling? I think they could. They'd get better recruits being at a D1 level, put them in a system like SU's and you have a top notch team.
Sure, it'll take a couple maybe 5 years to get used to the trasnsition but it will be worth it

The latest word I heard is that the Big 12 Wrestling schools want NDSU. Why? Because they only actually have 5 wrestling schools in their conference, (Oklahoma, Okla. State, Nebraska, Iowa State, and Missouri) and they want more teams to get more national qualifiers for their conference. The Bison wrestlers may be able to be at least respectable in this conference, but I doubt that the other sports will have much luck in Norman or Lincoln. Also interesting, in a recent poll a vast majority of the NDSU team makers so they wouldn't contribute more money then they already do if the Bison go D I.--but the hiearchy doesn't care. They are still railroading it through.
