Dear Wrestling fans and participants,
I hope you are having a great year so far and wish you good luck in the future. I am posting this hoping you will read it and return your opinion to me. I have been approached by the National High School Coaches Association to start a North Dakota State Qualifier. This tourney would be open to college, high school, middle school, and elementary students. It would be run using folkstyle rules. The top 4 placers at each weight would qualify for the NHSCA Open Championships in Norforlk, Virginia. Now comes the part that I have the most doubt about, each participant would be required pay a $20.00 entry fee to get into the tourney. This is something that I am still working on, but do not think I am going to be able to do anything about. I know that we currently run many freestyle tourneys and have a state folkstyle tourney in place. As a high school coach I would like to see more tourneys that encourage young wrestlers to learn the rules of folkstyle at a younger age. I am not saying this is the only or best way to do this, but it might be a start. This tourney would have to be run in the spring, and I know that we already have many tourneys in place with limited dates. As I said in the beginning, I was approached by the NHSCA with the hopes that I would direct and set up this type of tourney in North Dakota since we currently do not have anything like it in place. I am totally open to your opinions and suggestions about this idea.
take care,
Randy Hilzendeger
thanks for your time and opinions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
