I was at the Lisbon KQLX tournament, and after watching Class A schools all year long, I had the chance to see some of the tougest B schools in the state, and to me, Class A and B styles are totally different. I was wondering what you thought.

i think class b is more agressive for the most part and i think that class a maybe has class b beat in technique for the most part. class b is alot funner to watch if u ask me tho, it's a full six minute match where as 2 good class a guys will be like a 2-1 match almost everytime. class a is just boring.

To me, class B is more wrestling on the mat, where as A is mostly on the feet. Also, B lies more on strength rather then technique, and the opposite for class A. In my opinion, class A is more exciting.

I feel that Class A does wrestle more on their feet but when they do wrestle on the mat you see alot of leg riding and tilts.

i agree that class A is more technical than B and they rely more on the speed and precision of a shot more than just raw strength. To me class A is better to watch because in my opinion the execution of the moves is quicker and smoother. Though i like to watch all wrestling regardless of class and think that this is just generalizations and i am not saying that class B wrestlers do not have technique.

As the mom of a young man who has wrestled both Class A & B, I think wrestling is exciting whenever you watch. I have loved it all.

I feel that the Class B wrestlers tend to reflect more the strengths and weaknesses of their particular coach. This is because a lot of times they have the same coach from kids level to jr high through high school. The class A wrestlers usually are exposed to several different coaches on the way up. There are good and bad points in each case.

Class A is the most boring wrestling to watch! A person will get ahead and stall out the match to win. Class B somebody gets ahead and works hard to get pins to help out there team. So if you wanna see exciting wrestling switch to class b and you will see 5x as many pins and not see a stalling fest all day

Wrestler03,
I have to disagree with you. I see way more stalling in Class B than I do in Class A . I also feel the technique in Class A is by far better than that of Class B wrestlers for the most part. I enjoy watching wrestling no matter what but remember, this is just my opinion.

I wish more kids would learn how to stall, we see way more pins now then we did 10-15 years ago. If you have a lead you better know how to protect it and if your in a dual stay off your back because pin points are usually the deciding factor. Someone will reply and say the reason their are more pins is because the level of wrestling is better but I say bullcrap their were just as many studs back then as there is now. If anything the wrestling has gotten more sloppy. It sucks but stalling is a part of wrestling at every level and if you know how and when to do it you will win alot more then lose.

What is stalling gonna do for your team when they need the team points in a dual or a tournament? Pins become very important when winning team titles especially come state time. When teams win by 1 or 2 points it comes down to who had more pins and techs, usually not who had more wins.

I agree that pins will decide any tournament or dual and thats why I tell all my horses we need pins and my guys that are outmatched stay off your back and keep the match close so you have a chance at the end of a match to win. I see way to many kids get pinned who are either ahead or 1 or 2 points behind. If you don't give up a pin you can also help your team win a tournament or dual it goes both ways.

I have to say that Class B wrestling is way more exiciting than Class A. First of all, in Class A they wrestle each other so darn many times throughout the year you pretty much know who will win it at state. In Class B, It is a totally different story half of the wrestlers in a weight class have never met before, so it is pretty much anybody's game once state rolls around. Another thing that i find more in class B than A is the switching of wrestlers in duals. It seems like class B, wrestlers are always bumping around looking to wrestle the toughest kid on the opposite team. For example, Irmen wrestled 2 weight classes above his usual one just to wrestle Dan White. Also when people bump around it gives the younger kids a chance to wrestle varsity. We see that all over. Class A, you never really hear about anything like that. You see big blowouts in Class A duals , where class B alot of the teams will put in some backups if they know they could crush the opposing team. Some times you still see blow outs, but once you see who wrestled who, a person don't even recognize some of the names. Just my thought on that subject

As a former Class B coach I would have to disagree with the point that B is more exciting. I was a B coach for 6 years and have been in A for 3 and I see very little difference in the excitement level. (Both are very exciting) As for the B kids moving around more, I would have to disagree there as well. In the WDA and EDC every dual is a 'big one' because we use our dual schedule as our state qualifier criteria. So therefore you won't see alot of moving and shifting unless it is absolutely necessary. If you had been at the Grand Forks tourney you would have seen tons of shifting. ie Covington moving to wrestle Krum. It all depends on the situation. Again I am a huge fan of both A and B. Just one coaches opinion.
Good Luck to All Wrestlers.
