What about staying in the MidWest. The NAIA and DII schools in North Dakota and South Dakota produce a great deal of the high school coaches. If you want High School wrestling to continue to be a force in the Dakotas we should help each wrestler find a school. If the high school coaches do not step up and help the local colleges fill the rooms they will feel the ramifications down the road. Some areas already have a hard time finding a quality coach. I work at keeping 40 guys in our room and they ALL compete. We wrestle DI through Junior College. We think you get the best of both worlds - we get to wrestle DI guys then come back to our classes where our professors ask us how we did and then gives us a great one on one education! So don't think just DI - think College wrestling at a school that fits your needs. Coach OD

Hawks Coach,
You make a good argument. What I would like to see is more 'good' wrestlers try the DII-NAIA wrestling colleges while our best (dynamite dozen, if you will) go on and try DI. I think we definitely have the talented wrestlers that can do well in DI, and if they get the flood gates opened, maybe more of our best can go and make a statement on the BIG TIME national scene.
I think there are too many good high school wrestlers who don't try college wrestling because they don't think they are good enough. Probably because college coaches don't offer them a scholarship or something and then the kid just decides not to do it. Any college athlete knows at the DII level that it's not about the $$, it's about loving the sport and loving to compete. If any good HS wrestler reads this, I hope you seriously consider wrestling in college, even if you have to walk-on your first year or two~~go kick butt and earn your scholarship. College wrestling is/can be on the the best experiences you will ever have.
