Just wondering what every one thinks of seeding the state tournaments and how we could go about doing it?

It would be very difficult to seed the individual tournament. It probably could be done in the A s as most all of the A teams either see each other or have common opponents. The B s on the other hand are less likely to all have even common opponents to go by. If it could be done, it would make for a better state tournament, with the best matches in the finals, instead of in the semis, as happens a lot. I just don't think it could be done fairly. A case in point- I don't think the dual seeding at state works very well for the Bs, but I don't know how to fix it without somehow weighting the strength of schedule.

I don't think its that big of a deal. Cream rises to the top. The only diff. its going to make is to say you finished second instead of third, 6th instead of seventh. etc.....

I don't like the idea of seeding 8 wrestlers in the B's. The only thing wrong (with the way it is now) is that two undefeated studs can match up in the Semi's. This is where the SDHSAA could seed it. (but only 1 & 2). JUST PUT THE TWO BEST REGION CHAMPS ON OPPOSITE SIDES! Make sure their 2nd place finishers on also on opposite sides.
The way its designed now (16-man bracket), each Region is represented represented in the 4-man brackets. 1st vs. 4th, and 2nd vs. 3rd, and all 4 from a different Region. It is also set up so that Region finalists (1st & 2nd in the SAME region) are on opposite sides of the bracket.
This system makes sure that you cannot wrestle anyone from your region for the first two rounds! I really like this. By putting the regions against each other, the arguments of seeding, are settled on the mat! Seeding hurts the chances of stronger regions. If the regional runner up is the sencond best in state, he is on opposite sides of the region champ.
By the way, don't compare SD to ND on this issue. ND only has 35 B schools with programs, and 5 of those are so weak they shouldn't be seriously counted. Just because ND seeds the state tourny, doesn't mean SD should. TEXT

armbar, You said"seeding would hurt the chances of the stronger regions". How so ? You could still seed a region champ & runner-up #1 & #2 in the tournament.

I'll tell you how it hurts the stonger regions. The kids with the stronger scheduals will have worse records. ( lower seeds or drawn in). THEN THEY COULD WRESTLE EACH OTHER IN THE FIRST TWO ROUNDS, (kids from the same region), instead of seeing a kid from another region.
Look, the only problem with not seeding it, is the top two kids meet in the Semi's. 3rd - 8th will be settled on the mat. It will only be fair to strong regions if you split up the mini 4-man brakets with kids from each region.
JUST SEED THE TOP TWO KIDS AND PUT THIER 4-MAN GROUP ON OPPOSITE SIDES. ( while making sure the runner up in your region is still not on your side)
