i have to say marv sherrill from watertown or bauder from parkston
bauder has turned parkston into a state champion team in only 3 years
marv has won many conference, region and state titles ive also heard rumors thats its his last year so i want to know what you guys think about that

How about Coach Ruml from Howard? Has anyone coached at one school as long as he has up in Howard and compiled as many victories as he has? How many state placers can he list.

My vote has to go to Sherrill. Always a contender, no matter who he puts out on the mat. Ruml is also great.

Some of the west river coaches i noticed seemed to be darn good coaches. I would say Jonas Weiss of Hot Springs. He knows his stuff it seems and he is always calm...he doesn' t make an ass out of himself like most of the "yelling" coaches do.

Does anyone remember what Milbank was like before Bob Hirsch. It took a few years, but they ended up winning State. He started from scratch, and made a powerhouse. Remember, Milbank is a small A school.
Now really, Does anyone remember what Watertown was like before Marv?! Marv is a SD wrestling legend. I think only Ruml can outshine him. Howard is a small school, and look at that the kids they have produced for the last 20 years. B coaches have a smaller pool to pick from. They are more involved with the kids programs, and Jr. high. They have to compete for the same good athletes as BBall. Those are my top Three with, Ruml getting the nod.

Hirsch, schilley or Ruml. Watertown has always been tough but the thing i don't understand is how big is there enrollment? Sioux falls, aberdeen, rapid city has multiple schools and watertown has one. I have more respect to a coach of a small town that can match up to a big town. I don't know how it is everywhere else but alot of time here the good athletes aren't wrestlers. If the guys that spent winters lifting weights would wrestle instead, there would be tougher wrestlers throughout the state A small town coach has to take the ones that don't have the coordination and make them into a skillful athlete. And when he's successful, he also makes the wrestling program more popular. People want to watch the matches and be a part of the team moreso.

i am from watertown we have between 1300-1350 students i think its the same for a little school and a bigger school you have who you have just because we have more students than a littler school that doesnt mean we have more to choose from this year we had about 40 wrestlers in out room we have everyone wrestle, varsity, jc, c team and so on. over half the people in the room are pretty bad wrestlers or its their first year so it doesnt matter how big of a school you have

Quote from wrestler99: you have who you have just because we have more students than a littler school that doesnt mean we have more to choose from
That is the the dumbest thing I have ever heard. That is exactly what it means. If you have more students in the school you are going to have more wrestlers to choose from. You say that you have 40 wrestlers. Thats alot more then most schools have. If sioux falls had just one school they would kill watertown everytime.

One Word (school): WINNER
Their coach told me that they have 20 wrestlers in the room for their HS squad, and they held their own with the biggest schools in the state. So that may back up the statement that school size does not matter.
Back to the subject of the best coach: I won't put him as the BEST coach, but Coach Kaiser had done a heck of a job the past few years at Winner.
