One wrestler I would like to throw out is Josh Stadheim from Hettinger. 152 ibs. state runner-up in 1996 and 1997

I start feeling old when I read the posts on this site and this post will really date me. A heavyweight from Hettinger in the late 60's by the name of Dick Vliem finished 2nd(twice?) and went on to a very succesful college career at one the SD NCC colleges. When I read about the Vliem wrestling now for Hettinger I wonder about the relationship.

Years ago, probably early 80's I believe, one of the Doll's from New Salem at 145 (I think) was very good. If I remember right his first name was Randy and he was a very good wrestler that never won a title. Also from New Salem, Charlie Nagel, (younger brother of Clay now in Frazee) was a runner up.

Some wrestlers that come to my mind are Dave Erickson a two time runner-up from Hettinger back in the 80's, Daren Hoesel from New Salem, Shane Eskelson from Ashley-Wishek, Luke McDonald and Blaine Pagel from Hettinger, Aaron Zielsdorf from Beach (he won it once but never won it again.) He was a two-time runner-up though. I know I'm forgetting some more but, that's some that I remember.

Fordville,
I think Randy Doll was undefeated on his way to a sure title. At State he was called for a slam and the wrestler was unable to continue. Both wrestlers ended up wrestling each other in the consy round. Randy got a little payback in the second match and went on to finish third.
