I don't know about anyone else, but I guess the first round match-up that I'm most interested in is in 145 with Brandon Kok up against Kyle Mahlum. That should be a good match, but I think it'll be Brandon in the end because of Mahlum's lack of matches this season.

I agree...I would imagine Kok was hoping to get a little easier first round match than this one! However, I think Kok is very focused on winning a state title and I don't see Mahlum upsetting Kok...close yes, but a win for Mahlum, no.

Takedown King In fact this most interesting fact is that Mahlum did not get seeded at all. He is shoulders above #ers 5-8. You are correct in asking this question. 3 time state placer, twice 2nd and no seed. Come on guys, wake up!!!

Interesting first round matches: Class A these are how the teams are sitting with first round matches. As we all know if anyone is going to make a run at the title, the first round matches are very important. #1 - Fargo South - 11 matches - #2 - Fargo North - 9 matches #3 - Wahpeton - 8 matches #4 - Dickinson - 8 matches #5 - Williston - 8 matches #6 - Jamestown - 7 matches #7 - Devils Lake - 7 matches #8 - Bismarck High - 7 matches #9 - Bismarck Century - 6 matches #10 - Minot - 6 matches #11 - Mandan - 6 matches #12 - St Marys - 5 matches #13 - GF Central - 5 matches #14 - Beulah - 4 matches #15 - Valley City - 4 matches #16 - Belcourt - 3 matches #17 - GF Red River - 3 matches #18 - West Fargo - 3 matches

The seeding is done by criteria not by who the coaches think would win in a match. Everyone knows Kyle is a great wrestler but lack of matches and injury defaults in the regional hurt his seeding. No coach in the state is going to back off on the criteria.

luv2pin,
If you are upset about the seeding process talk to your own guys. Both Scott and Jeff were at the seeding meeting in Valley City.

Pin2Win I am not upset nor am I angry. I feel past considerations should be made. Whether my opinion matters is not the issue. If Kyle is to win the title this year he will have to beat everyone, including Kok. I feel the draw was not fair to Kyle or Brandon. I know the coaches and the NDAHSAA ruling is the law. In this case, I am not happy with the luck of the draw.

Kyle Mahlum might have placed all those other years but that doesnt matter, this is a new year and things change, he hasnt wrestled alot of matches last year or this year. Didn't Kok beat him 7-0 at regionals? if he did then i really dont see Mahlum beating Kok at state. He has been gone for a while and people are catching up to him and it doesnt surprise me that hes not seeded. If he beat O'brian and lost to Kok and defaulted the rest then he should not get a seed unless he was in terrible pain.

In fact it does matter that he placed in previous years, because that too is part of the seeding criteria. But it does not go by that alone, I think the fact is that he's only had a few matches and you cannot expect to be seeded when in fact you haven't wrestled more than 10 matches in a 3 month season!!
