cross is one of the most underestimated wrestlers in north dakota. he has upset some of the best at 125 and made other matches very close. i think he should place this year. i have also heard this is only his 2nd year of wrestling.

Nick Reidman from Valley City and is 18-2 so far....hasn't had the chance to wrestle many kids from the west...otherwise he would be ranked. It will be interesting to see what he does at the state tournament. Another Valley City wrestler is Evan Knodle...ranked 6th at 145, his record doesn't really show it, but he is tough. Just beat Jace Carter of Lisbon last night. I am from Jamestown, but my brother is from Valley City so I try to see all of their duals I can. These kids are the real deal.

You better believe that Dusty Vliem is very underestimated. Only a sophomore with the talent and knowledge of a senior. When Marc Mellmer was a sophomore, everyone was talking all big about him. Dusty Vliem, undefeated, pins all but one kid so far this year. If he was wrestling for someone like carrington, or napoleaon, then would he get the attention he deserves?

When Marc Mellmer was a sophomore he already had 2 state champioships under his belt! That is why "everyone was talking all big" about him. If you feel Dusty is underrated, say so, but don't criticize the publicity Marc received. The other reason Dusty may not be getting the recognition you think he deserves is because he missed some tough tournaments earlier in the year. Had he been at those, and was still undefeated, he may not be considered underrated.

I guess I have to agree with Pin2win Any publicity that Mellmer has gotten is well deserved. I have personally have not heard of him before this year. Great to hear he is doing so well. As far as press time, I hope Hettinger or the Dickinson is covering his progress. It would not be fair to compare the coverage that either the Bismarck or surrounding towns in the area may get compared to Mr. Vliem. I feel being so young, and unknown to others may not give him the press he may deserve. Give him a state tournament or 2 to prove himself and he will get his due. Alot of times, big tournaments such as the Rotary or state tournament will either bring out the best in wrestlers or define just what each person is made up of. As far as the Napoleon & Carrington wrestlers, just look at the results this year. They competed with the best and alot of those kids came out and showed the state just how good they really are. ;D

He missed 1 tounament this year. I don't think that by missing just one tourny, is going to jepordize his season. Marc Mellmer is a great wrestler, i'm just saying that people don't give any attention to all class b kids. It's a great feat for Dusty to be ranked in the nation among the top wrestlers. I think that shows that there is quality wrestlers at the class b level. The 171lb. weight class is not an easy weight class to be doing this. Just give some credit to those deserving quality class b wrestlers. If Dusty was at another big school like a Napoleon, or Carrington (big time wrestling schools throughout the years) or even in a class "a" school, then people would start to recognize what they are dealing with.
Congratulations Dusty on a fine wrestling career so far. May there be many more great seasons for you!!

How can you say that he would get more recognition if he came from a big school like napoleon or carrington when hettinger was dominant for 3 years and is ranked in the top 5 this year. Yes Dusty is a great wrestler but i dont agree that he isnt getting the attention because of the school he is from. And if he was at the rotary this year i think he would have a blemish on his record because after watching michaelson wrestle i am not sure he is going to be beat anytime soon.

That Vliem is very good wrestler, and he has wrestled and beaten some great wrestlers already. He beat Taylor jenner from Ashley Wishek who is a 2 time runner up, and has had no trouble with anybody else from North dakota or South Dakota. He wrestles way better than what would be expected for a kid that young at such a heavy weight class. As far as coverage goes, I would have to agree that neither hettinger or Killdeer get any recognition throughout the year. It is hard to find a dual about them, let alone a story. Must be since they are out in the Boonies, there really is nobody in the area to cover them. I know That all the Class A guys are talking about Mcleary at 189 from napoleon since he did so well at the rotary, Well i guess Seth Murphy from Killdeer already beat Mcleary pretty convincingly, at the prestigious East/West Tournament. Then staying on the subject of coverage for good wrestlers, Ben Imdieke is already a 2 time State champ and he is only a Junior this year, but doesn't get near the hype that Mellmer or lang did, and Linton is only fifty some miles from Bismarck. From what i have seen, Ben bumps up all the time just to get better competition. Heck he gives up 10-12 pounds at 160 but has wrestled Tom Gross and Nick Bobb already and beat them both. Just thought i'd throw that thought at some of you.
