I am from South Dakota and we have been running our dual tournament for three years now. I am just wondering if the North Dakota teams and fans like it as much as the individual or is it not as important. In South Dakota I think for most people the individual tournament is more important.

I like the dual tournament, but I also dont like it.....I wish it was a different weekend than individual state. Its really not that much more wrestling but it just kinda gets in the way when ur focused on the individual tournament and you could get wore out or hurt..... now if your a good wrestler.. u wont let any of that happen . The dual tourney is good for the most part.

Yes the individual tourney is way more important...... not many ppl worry too much about the duals... unless your like napoleon or minot ryan even then i think they are more focused on individuals

As a fan I think its great, but as a wrestler I don't know if I would like it. If you have a good team you possibly have 9 matches in 3 days thats alot.

the dual tourney is alright, but yea the individual tourney is way more important and then dual tourney should be like the weekend after the individual tourney because, fans without teams in the duals could usually really care less about the duals and too many good wrestlers are gettin injured in the duals and there goes their shot at an individual title.

state dual tourney is a good idea, but should be at a different time. speaking from experience from the first year it was done in ND, we wrestled the dual finals then went straight into the individual finals without much of a break. I know I was extremely wore out by the time we got to my weight, and my opponent hadnt wrestled those extra matches because his team wasnt in the dual. it's very exhausting having to wrestle all the other matches when your opponent doesnt have too.

Example of why state dual should be a different weekend: injuries. Brandon Henderson gets the 1 seed at 130 and gets hurt in the first round of duals so has to default the rest of the individual tournament. Now if state dual is the week before, he might have had the chance to come back. Duals should be moved to a different weekend or just dropped all together.

As an observation, I think that the coaches who fought to get the state duals going will not want any changes. I think that having it on 2 different week-ends is unrealistic, because the school districts do not want the added expense of paying for 2 seperate trips for the wrestlers. I think to be realistic, it COULD be held on the same week-end as individual, but say, have the individual tournament first...like on Thursday and Friday, and hold the team competition the following day, like on Saturday. That way, the individual entrants would not have to worry about getting injuries in the team competition...and spoiling their chances at the state individual title, such as what happened this year with Henderson....what a shame! The only way that this will become a reality is if you guys on this website get together and get some petitions started in your towns and send them to the North Dakota High School Activities Association. That is the ONLY way it will happen...So don't sit around waiting for it to happen if you truly want a change. Good Luck, and get going on this!
