Metro area coaches have combined to form a club for advanced wrestlers (k-6) by invite and 7-12 graders. All 3 styles are being taught with the corresponding tournament schedule. For more info contact my email address.

Will this work together with the Grizzlies FS/GR club, or will it be seperate?

This club will be replacing the Grizzlies. It will run November through Junior Nationals. In November we are dealing mostly with youth wrestling and high school rules, until Spring when we get into Freestyle and Greco. Since we are starting the club Monday, February 24th we will only be going through Juniors and then starting again in November.

So I'm assuming that November through February will be for the invited 1-6 graders, as the older wrestlers will be competing for their schools. Is this the case? Also, why is Grizzlies being replaced? Lastly, why is it invite only for younger members? How are new wrestlers supposed to be introduced to the sport? Just wondering. I'm sure it will go wonderfully. Best wishes.

Ryan, Would you have been one of the "Advanced Wrestlers by Invite"?
I think what you are doing is good for the eastern North Dakota wrestling, but I also think you may be leaving some soon to be great wrestlers behind because they are not standouts when they are young!
Just my thoughts. Sorry.

I guess that's kind of what I was implying. Also, where are you going to look to find these young wrestlers? Is there a seperate club for them to start out in?

All Respondents:
The Matpac was set up with two divisions. Beginning Wrestlers and Advanced Wrestlers. Each had their own sessions. This program has been very successful.
However, I think that there should really be three divisions: Beginning Wrestlers (Those who are in the Primary Grades 1-8),
Advanced Wrestlers, (Those who have competed in Jr High Programs) and
Highschool Wrestlers (Those who have competed at the Highschool Level).
Three different levels based on the wrestlers skill level. Don't forget the Weight Training program and sessions designed to mentally and emotionally prepare the Wrestler.
Milo Trustee has a wealth of experience in this area - I am sure he would be more than happy to discuss his ideas with the Fargo Coaches.
Again - no matter how you design the program it will be good for North Dakota Wrestlers - Double OO-Rah.

Response for Ryan Kringle... In response to Krusedog and Train2Win: The coaches met again last night to address these issues concerning inviting wrestlers and/or setting up criteria to make the club. Outside of the advanced club, our original idea was to teach the basics at current youth programs at North and South. We would have had the all coaches on the same page as far as what moves we wanted to see before entering the next level. The coaches would all be a part of the big picture.
We wanted to see the kids that have been practicing November continue to grow, while the new kids be taught the basics before entering the next level. Simple criteria would have been set up for the kids to achieve in a relatively short time.
However, instead of inviting/handpicking the wrestlers we felt belonged in the club, as stated in short above, we are not going to set criteria or invite. We are opening the club to all wrestlers with no limitations.
For this Spring/Summer Session we have a date change: registration will be Tuesday, March 4, and Thursday, March 6, with the first day of practice being Monday, March 10. Also, because of the later start date, the only styles that will be worked on wil be Freestyle/Greco. The registration will take place at Bison Sports Arena located outside of the wrestling room. Time of registration will be at 6:00-7:30 on both days and wrestling will start at 6:00 on Monday and go until 7:30.
Flyers will be mailed out to schools in Fargo and the surrounding areas. If you need a flyer please email me at ryan@prairiesupply.com.
