The ND Activities Association has Fargo as the site for the 2003-2004 State Wrestling Tournament. The Fargo Dome is the Venue

I heard that Bismarck was the site for 2004, and that Fargo was the site for 2005...But, who knows?

Why the sad face, Luv2pin? We, in eastern ND will welcome the short drive! The Fargodome will most likely be set up as they do for BB games--using only 1/2 of the floor.

Bluebetty Sorry about the sad face. I guess I thought we were going to be spoiled by having the tournament in Bismarck for my son's senior year. We come to Fargo and wrestle 2 times per year, once at the Bison Sports Arena & the Dome for Nationals. The Dome is great facility but is toobig for the wrestling venue. The fans are too far from the wrestling with the layout they have for Nationals. It would be great if they could get the fans closer to the action. ;D

I have no idea how they will set up the FargoDome for State Wrestling, and I do know how it is set up for the Jr. Nationals, as I was there this past summer to watch my son wrestle for Team North Dakota as a cadet. For some events in which they do not expect to fill the facility, they bring the whole south side of risers over to the middle of the dome, and have chairs that they set up below the railings on all sides. These chairs are on riser like platforms, and actually let you access the floor. It would be nice if it were to be set up like that, because people could get alot closer to the action! Speaking of floor access--Minot facilities are the greatest because of that! Bismarck facilities are good, but lack the floor access! Keep your fingers crossed that the information is incorrect on the website, and maybe Travis will be wrestling in Bismarck next year after all for his senior year! (That's where my son told me he heard it would be) and Mr. Gumms thought so also. Minot should be a great tournament! Hillsboro Mom

I've done some asking around... Originally the state wrestling tournament would have been in Fargo this year and in Bismarck next year but..... Since the change in the girls basketball season to the winter, the fargo dome was going to be in use for them..... So Minot got the state wrestling tourney again and bumped Bismarck back a year. So, Fargo gets the state next year and Bismarck gets it the next year...

I agree that they gotta move the tournament around...but i think the fargo dome is probly the worst place to have it....its to big and spread out for our state touranment. You would think that after the class b state boys tourney was there and everyoen was pissed off about it that it was a bad place that they wouldnt make wrestling go there which doesnt even have as many fans go as the bball does. I wish they would change it to bismark rather than the dome...its more centrally located and they put on a good show....turn off the lights and stuff.....i personally think the fargo dome is a bad place to host state wrestling and i will put money on that it wont be there again after next year cause everyone will be mad....

ndwrestler,
WAIT until FargoDome hosts the event before blasting the facility. AND please don't compare wrestling fans to basketball fans!!! Let everyone decide for themselves.
Personal view on FargoDome and Eastern North Dakota,
I think the size of the Dome will be its biggest asset. I attended Disney On Ice the other night and the way they are able to move the South stands down to the North side will make it seem "small" enough for you. They will be able to easily put in eight mats, which will speed the tourney along. The view of the mats will be way better than Minot's Dome (not as cozy as Bismarck CC, though). They will have ample warm up room behind the South stands for the wrestlers to get ready. If I remember right, they had some type of carnival in the unused part of the Dome during that state basketball tournament. I would think that idea would be much more conducive to a wrestling tournament. I believe the Dome has plenty of options to make it a great place to watch the state tournament. Besides, I believe, many of the kids in the western part of the state won't mind a long bus ride to be able to go to Fargo and wrestle in the FargoDome.
We should be promoting all of our great facilities in the state. I personally would like to see a rotation of the state tournament between the Big Four (Fargo, Grand Forks, Minot, and Bismarck). That way four year state tourney entrants would be able to experience all of the Big Four. We will have more four time state champions in the future. Consider it the state's "Wrestling Grand Slam". By spreading out the state tournament to more cities will only promote the sport better all around the state, and that can only be good for everyone involved.
One other up on Minot and Bismarck is that Fargo has plenty of good restaurants within "walking" distance. Yeah, Bismarck is OK, but Minot is absolutely terrible in this department.
And finally, like Bismarck CC and unlike the Minot Dome, NO BLEACHERS!!!!!!!
Enjoy the state tournament!!! EJHewitt

I think the dome would be an ideal place to hold the tourny.... If they set it up like state basketball was set up last year it will bring the fans closer to the action then we've seen before...
