I do have a lot of respect for wrestling ref's. Who do you guys feel are some of the better ones around the state?

Casey Henderson Rick Ripplinger Shannon Johnson-I will be at the Carrington at Napoleon duel to keep him honest or chew his butt. Joe Roth I admit I don't see many refs from the northwest or norteast.

Joe Roth, Neil Litton, and John Nelson are some of the best from the east.

dfreeman...you obviously see some Bis refs quite a bit. There is a fairly new ref who I believe is from Bismarck (he was at rotary last year and Dickinson tourney this year) who does a good job. I don't know who he is but somebody said he is originally from Beach? Seems to call a fair match.

Any ref who's not afraid to call stalling. A ref who will call stalling in the last 15 seconds to tie a match up and put it into overtime. The ref who knows a 2 on 1 that's being used as a ride and not for a pinning combination.

Joe Roth, Guy Kimbal (sp?) Not a big fan of Jon Nelson, though. I've seen him make some really bad calls, more often than most refs it seems.
Also, any ref who can correctly call the spladle. This has improved lately, but a few years ago when Spiess introduced it to Fargo North, a lot of refs (especially from the west) wouldn't call the takedown or backpoints until 15 or 20 seconds into it, let alone a pin.
All in all, I'm very pleased with the refs in ND. Keep up the good work.

The best current referee and in my opinion, the best of all time is Blair Kelly. Blair is not only a terrific ref, but also a stand up guy. Blair, if you're out there...Went up like this, came back down...GGGGGGG

I feel that the referee's are doing a great job this year. I have been watching the fans and the referee's this past couple of duals and I think that some of the fans including some of our fans may need to back off a bit. I have been trying to yell our encouragement to the wrestlers instead of getting on the ref. That is one job I would never take on. It would be tough to handle with the fans trying to get under the ref's skin because the calls are not going our way. I always think how they are feeling when you have fans yelling at them. It would only be human not to think badly at the team whose fans are constantly on them. As Milo Trusty always taught my son: "Never blame an official because you were beaten by 1 or 2 points. Just maybe you should have been going harder and winning by more , that way you cannot blame the official".....
